Torchbearer

Torch makes a big impression

Children at Broadclyst Community Primary School enjoyed a visit from Olympic torchbearer Adam Rooke.

Pupils at the school have been learning about the Olympics and were excited to have a chance to hold the torch.

Adam, the first torchbearer in Exeter, spent time in every class answering questions and talking about his experience carrying the flame. The children had their picture taken holding the torch with him.

Year 1 pupil Gracie Bauer said: "I liked having my photo taken with Adam Rooke and touching the Olympic torch. It felt bumpy, heavy and cold."

Classmate Olivia Bateman added: "I liked it when he showed us the torch and when he told us how it was lit from a lantern."

Red Cross First Aid Tuesday 16th July 2013

On Tuesday 16th July, year 6 had a visit from two first aid experts from the Red Cross. The children learned and practised many essential and potentially lifesaving skills such as bandaging, CPR and how to put a patient into the recovery position. Using their friends and some CPR dummies, the children acted out scenarios following correct procedures including checking for dangers, listening for a response and opening the casualty’s airway. Children also had the opportunity to ask questions about how to deal with some common first aid situations and how they can help if a problem arises.

Year Six Sailing Day

On Friday 19th July the Year 6’s were treated to a fantastic day’s sailing on the Exe Estuary in Exmouth. The conditions were perfect, with light offshore winds and clear blue skies. Everyone had the opportunity to spend some time sailing on a small dingy with a qualified instructor, as well as enjoying some time playing on the beach. It was an idyllic day, with all the children showing a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and excitement. Many of the children said ‘it was one of the best things they had ever done’. A big thank you must be extended to all of the instructors at the Exe Sailing Club who gave up their time to make the day possible.

Year Three Brass Project

P1010516

This year, classes 3LW and 3SGe have been learning to play a range of brass instruments, from the pocket trumpet, to the trombone to the baritone! Over the year they have made excellent progression with the sound they can make and can now play a range of pieces in the class band. The children have had the wonderful opportunity to play some of their favourite pieces, in a canteen performance for parents and family. Some of the children’s favourite pieces are ‘We will rock you’, ‘Run’ and ‘Uppity’! If you would like to watch the performances look out for them on Clickview in the future.
