Hoarding Competition

We have won the National Ivor Goodsite Hoarding Competition in which over 2,500 children took part! Miss Farrant has worked with all the children from every class from the nursery to Year 6. The younger children covered their hands in paint to make hand prints for the grass, and the older children painted mini-beasts. Chamber Choir Perform in Princesshay

The Chamber Choir performed this afternoon at Princesshay, in the centre of Exeter. It was a great opportunity for them to perform in public to a much wider audience. The singing was enjoyed by the people in the surrounding cafés and restaurants, and shoppers stopped to listen. The Princesshay Events Organiser was so impressed with the choir's singing that they were asked if they would sing at the switching on of the Christmas Lights.

Killerton Summer Concert

What a wonderful summer concert and picnic this evening at Killerton House. There were over 120 children singing in the whole-school choir, with songs sung by KS1 Choir, KS2 Choir, the Chamber Choir, and pupils who have singing lessons at school. There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere in the beautiful gardens whilst everyone was listening to a selection of songs that the children have sung over the past year. A great final concert.

Choir In London

I have returned from two lovely days with the Chamber Choir in London. We were going to see the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican, but after two hours of stationary London traffic we missed the performance. Instead we spent the afternoon at The Tower of London, followed by dinner at Pizza Express. Today we took a flight on the London Eye and when we were at the top, the children sang 'Best Day Of My Life'. There was just enough time for me to take the group on a quick tour of London with a quick march back from Buckingham Palace to the London Eye to go on a river cruise. It was a very busy couple of days.

Winning the Kingfisher Award

The children are celebrating victory this evening after winning the Kingfisher Award. Their win was announced at the awards ceremony at Newton St Cyres Recreational Ground where they enjoyed storytelling, a jazz band and a picnic. The children in Year 4 beat six other schools by completing several tasks including field work and art work, based around this year's theme, 'What's in Poo?'

The judges said that the children showed great knowledge and enthusiasm for local wildlife, and awarded them the prestigious Kingfisher Trophy, a cash prize and a commemorative tree which will be planted in the school grounds.

The food was cooked on the BBQ by Mr Bolt, as preparation for his imminent move to Australia! There was a bouncy castle and the disco was held in the marquee.

FOOTBALL MATCH – Yr6 v Staff

The traditional end-of-school-year football match between the Year 6 team (average age 10.75 years) and the staff (average age 32.75) took place this afternoon. The staff team included Mr James, Miss Hawkins, Mr Lees, Mr Beevor and Mr Pitts, and even I made an appearance on the pitch. The school field was lined with children and staff, enjoying the shade under the trees, on what could possibly have been the hottest day of the year. The first goal was scored in the second minute and the crowd went wild as we were forced to play catch up! At the end of the second half it was a draw and after penalties we beat the children 9-6.
