On Tuesday 20th March a team of Year 4 and 5 girls represented the school in the School Games Under 10 football competition at St Luke’s.
They had to play 8 matches lasting 7 minutes each during the competition with only one rest break during this time. After a tough start with a 1-0 defeat (to the eventual competition winners), despite the excellent defensive efforts of Lucy and Aurelia and some great saves from Emily in goal, the team began to play more attacking football and were rewarded for this by earning their first two draws and then two wins respectively in the next four games, with Heidi, Jessie, Isabelle and Tegan all linking up well in attack. After their break they were unfortunate to suffer their second defeat before finishing their tournament with two fixtures against Willowbrook in which the team won their first 1-0 thanks to a goal from Bronwyn, before finishing their campaign with a 1-1 draw.
Despite their record of 3 wins, 3 draws and 2 defeats the team finished in fourth place, which although the girls were initially disappointed, they should be very proud of their achievements in finishing so highly against some well established teams and are already looking forward to their next opportunities to play together as a team.
