Mr Lees and Mr Kimber went on an exciting trip to London between the 23rd and 26th January. During this time, they were working with Microsoft at Bett 2019 – an educational technology show where teachers, academics, developers and the occasional student come together to find out about some of the latest gadgets and tools on offer to schools today. The show took place over 4 days at the huge ExCel convention centre.
As Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts (MIEEs), Mr Lees and Mr Kimber joined other MIEEs and Microsoft employees on the huge Microsoft stand to show members of the public some of the amazing tools, like OneNote, Flipgrid & Teams, that Microsoft have developed and that we love to use here at Broadclyst. They came back to school with some great ideas to try out with our own pupils – like 3D models in PowerPoints, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) lesson ideas and some other great surprises! They also had the chance to present a few times on the stage, explaining how schools can transfer to a ‘Cloud first digital strategy’ – using Office 365 as the central pillar of operations and many onlookers seemed intrigued and inspired by how we operate as a school!
There were some real highlights at Bett – Dell’s Dinosaur stand; the Artificial intelligence juice bar from Microsoft which chose you a drink based on your mood, age and gender and all sorts of amazing robots. Mr Kimber loved meeting the transformer, Bumblebee, but found it tricky working with Mr Lees on a giant Gameboy to try and complete a game of Super Mario! They’re both hoping to make it again next year!
