Pupils from Years 5 and 6 represented the school in the first round of Exeter Primary Football League fixtures at St. Peter’s AstroTurf on Monday 1st October.
Year 6 pupils (Broadclyst blue) had two fixtures this game week, aiming to defend their group stage title from last season, starting against Wynstream before playing Countess Wear. In the fixture against Wynstream the team started slowly before going into a 1-0 lead thanks to Charlie just before half time. The team then settled into their rhythm in the second half going on to win 4-0 thanks to goals from Ethan, Otto and Harry. Max, Ben and Jack also played their part defensively to ensure the team started their campaign with a clean sheet. The team started their second game exceptionally well, scoring a number of quick goals to take an impressive 7-0 lead at the break. The team added another goal in the second half to finish the game 8-0 winners. Goal scorers included Ethan with four goals, Otto with two, Charlie and Harry, ably assisted by Tegan in a number of moves that lead to a goal.
The Year 5 pupils (Broadclyst yellow) only had one fixture on this occasion, furthermore this was the first game for all of the players involved in the league. They faced Topsham in a close encounter, leading 1-0 at half-time before defending well in the second half to end the game with 3 points and a well-earnt 2-1 victory. The goals were scored by Isaac and Kiaran, although Zack and Jack also deserve credit for a pair of excellent goalkeeping performances.
All the pupils involved are now looking forward to the next round of league fixtures early in November, aiming to cement both teams positions in the top half of the table.
