India Link Trip - Day One

Greetings all the way from India New Delhi!
image-blog-india-01We took off from Heathrow airport on Thursday 12th February at around 12pm and arrived in New Delhi at 2am.  We were greeted at the airport by Bittu, a driver from the Good Samaritans School and taken to our hotel.  A few hours of sleep and we were raring to go for our first day.
First on today’s schedule was a visit to Humamayun’s tomb, followed by a visit to the Red Fort.  Here we listened to an audio tour telling us all about the history of the Fort and learnt a great deal about Shah Jahan, the man who commissioned it in 1638.
We then braved the Delhi traffic on our way back to the hotel where we sampled some authentic Indian cuisine.  Tomorrow we are getting up at 4am to set off on an adventure to Agra, where we will get to see the Taj Mahal, one of the 7 Wonders of the World.

Teachers' India Link Trip Starting

image-blog-india1From 13th to the 20th February, teachers Chloe Farrant and Sarah Northcott will be travelling to New Dehli, India once again to link with our partner school, Jasola.  They will be spending a week teaching in the schools, sharing resources and teaching methods as well as collecting work to bring back to England.  The children have been preparing by writing letters and completing work around the topic of food.  Some of the children have made food diaries, videos and leaflets to share their project work with the Indian children.

The two teachers established a link with Jasola in February 2014 when they visited India for the first time. Jasola is one school within a network of ‘Good Samaritan schools.’ These schools provide a good, valued education to underprivileged children in New Delhi and many lack space and resources.

The partnership has offered Broadclyst Community Primary School an insight into culture and customs across the world and has enriched the children’s understanding of diversity and citizenship.

To follow them on their travels once again, Chloe Farrant and Sarah Northcott will be posting regular blogs to the school website, or you can follow them on the BCPS Facebook page or Twitter.

Football: Broadclyst 6 - 1 Sidmouth

2015-02-11-footballIn a home outing this time Broadclyst's first XI made excellent use of the large playing field to pass the ball expertly through the midfield and score some exquisite team goals. Sidmouth's goal came through an unstoppable freekick hit by their number 10, which made the game close at 2-1 however Broadclyst's class shone through in the end in what was a comfortable victory. Man of the Match today was Joe W, scoring 2 fantastically struck goals and linking play expertly throughout the game. Broadclyst second XI were also in action and were held to a 1-1 draw, with Jack B scoring our only goal in a fiercely fought game that ended level. Thanks to all the parents who helped to return goal posts back to school after the match!

Netball: at Sidmouth

2015-02-11-netballAnother brilliant effort from the Broadclyst netball team. This time 12 children from year 5 and 6 travelled to Simouth for a mini round robin of matches. Unfortunately there was no win this time although both teams played amazingly.

The scores were close with Broadclyst only losing out by 2 goals in the end. The match ended on a high note with the teacher from the other school praising the high standard of footwork by Broadclyst. Player of the match goes to Rio and Mimi for a positive attitude throughout all of the matches. Well done to everyone!

Netball: Broadclyst 8 - 3 Pinhoe

2015-02-05-netballFrozen toes, numb fingers and the rain didn't dampen the spirits of the Broadclyst Netball Team on Thursday.  They travelled to Pinhoe to play their second game against them and came out as victors for the second time, 8-3 to Broadclyst. A massive well done to all of the players on both teams, it was a great game. Miss Northcott's player of the match has to go to both Megan and Freddie who did some super defending. They are now ready for a match against Sidmouth on Tuesday. Let's hope for some warmer weather!

Football: Broadclyst 5 - 0 Pinhoe

2015-02-04-footballIn a hard fought game, Broadclyst's first XI were victorious against a resolute Pinhoe team. The first half proved to be challenging, finishing 1-0, with a breakthrough goal being scored by Thomas. Pinhoe defended well. After half time, Broadclyst began to find their passing rhythm, and were able to create more chances. Further goals from Camden, Louis, Jack and Joe completed the score. Excellent defending from Robert and Josh meant Freddie had a uneventful afternoon in goal but kept a well deserved clean-sheet.
