Leavers' Disco & BBQ

It was a beautiful summer's evening for the Year 6 Leavers' BBQ and Disco today. The children had all made an effort with their outfits, and they looked very grown-up. The food was cooked on the BBQ by Mr Bolt, as preparation for his imminent move to Australia! There was a bouncy castle and the disco was held in the marquee.

Year 6 GEC Presentations to the Dragons

Mr James, Mrs Rothery and I were back as the 'Dragons' for the final stage of the Enterprise Project. Throughout the day the groups have had the opportunity to make a final presentation of their facts and figures. The children all conducted themselves professionally and were able to answer all the questions we put to them. They are now waiting to see if their group has won, but they will have to wait until the winners are announced at the Leavers' Assembly on Wednesday.

Chamber Choir Perform in Princesshay

The Chamber Choir performed this afternoon at Princesshay, in the centre of Exeter. It was a great opportunity for them to perform in public to a much wider audience. The singing was enjoyed by the people in the surrounding cafés and restaurants, and shoppers stopped to listen. The Princesshay Events Organiser was so impressed with the choir's singing that they were asked if they would sing at the switching on of the Christmas Lights.

Year 3 Brass Concerts

On Thursday 10th and Friday 11th year 3 played in a brass concert in the marquee. Children were given the opportunity to showcase the skills that they have learnt over the year, playing their favourite brass tunes for parents and staff. Favourite pieces included 'Rock You', 'Beethoven's Symphony Nine' and 'Saturday Night'. The children practised small group solo parts and played extremely well throughout the performance. It was a great end to the school day; thank you to all parents who were able to come along and well done year 3!

Choir In London

I have returned from two lovely days with the Chamber Choir in London. We were going to see the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican, but after two hours of stationary London traffic we missed the performance. Instead we spent the afternoon at The Tower of London, followed by dinner at Pizza Express. Today we took a flight on the London Eye and when we were at the top, the children sang 'Best Day Of My Life'. There was just enough time for me to take the group on a quick tour of London with a quick march back from Buckingham Palace to the London Eye to go on a river cruise. It was a very busy couple of days.

Killerton Summer Concert

What a wonderful summer concert and picnic this evening at Killerton House. There were over 120 children singing in the whole-school choir, with songs sung by KS1 Choir, KS2 Choir, the Chamber Choir, and pupils who have singing lessons at school. There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere in the beautiful gardens whilst everyone was listening to a selection of songs that the children have sung over the past year. A great final concert.

First Aid in Year 6

Year 6 have been working with the British Red Cross to learn basic first aid. The session makes first aid skills simple to do and easy to remember, using relevant, real-life scenarios and everyday household objects. The children should be able to help you if you're having a heart attack, choking, unconscious and breathing, bleeding, have a burn or scald, or have a broken bone! The school is now a safer place.

Sailing

Year 6 have spent the day at Exe Sailing Club in Exmouth. The class was spilt into two, and the children spent either the morning or the afternoon sailing. Then the whole group met for a picnic on the beach. I spoke to the children when they returned to school and it was described by many as "the best day ever". The day was photographed and filmed, and the results will be shown at the Leavers' Assembly.
