Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Education and Hugo Swire the M.P for East Devon visited our school on Friday 11th May. Mr Gove was keen to see how the school has changed and developed since becoming an Academy and to discuss our plans for the future. Mr Gove was interviewed by Anna West in Year 5 in our T.V studio and asked whether he likes the school and if he might consider supporting the school’s plans for a new hall and canteen (to which he answered, by offering us a visit from Mr George Osbourne).
Whilst on a tour around the school Mr Gove asked class 5VH what their favourite books are, how much they enjoyed reading and started a lively debate on the merits of ‘Britain’s got talent’ and ‘The Voice’. He also took part in a brass lesson in class 3CF and in playing the Trombone proved to the children that they were in fact better at playing than he was. Mr Gove was highly complementary about the school, its facilities and the opportunities available but especially about the behaviour, enthusiasm and engagement of the children and how welcoming they had been.
