On Sunday the Chamber Choir travelled up to London to take part in the Young Voices concert at the O2 Arena. After dinner at Pizza Express they headed off to the Youth Hostel and most of them got a good night’s sleep!
In the morning we squeezed in a quick walk to have a look at the Cutty Sark and lunch at Café Rouge. The choir were seated right it the top rows so had an amazing view of the entire stadium. The rehearsals started at 2.00pm and after a run through of all the songs and dances they stopped for tea.
The doors opened for the audience at 6.30pm including some of the children’s parents. There was much excitement when the lights went down and the music started. All of the choirs had mini torches that they shone around the venue. There were 8500 children singing and dancing together –the world’s largest school choir.
It took a while for everyone to get out of the arena and back to the coach, and it was a very quiet drive back to the hostel with quite a few husky voices! The staff and children all went straight to sleep and most had to be woken and rushed down to breakfast before getting the coach back to school.
It was an amazing experience and very busy couple of days. The choir will be singing some of the songs they learnt at the Summer Picnic and Concert at Killerton in July.
