Eight pupils from Years 5 and 6 attended the Exeter City Kids Cup at Exeter University on Thursday 25 January 2018.
This was one of the largest tournaments that BCPS attends, with 28 teams and a very high quality of performance on display. Broadclyst were drawn in a tough group and faced Whipton Barton in their first game. After quickly going 3-0 down, the team showed great character to mount a fightback but were defeated 4-2 in the end, with both goals coming from Ethan after fine team moves. After regrouping, the team faced St. Martins in their next fixture which resulted in an emphatic 8-1 victory with Ethan, Fraser, Otto, George and Marlon sharing the goals. In the final fixture the team faced Newton Poppleford, where despite going behind very early on, they finished the game with a well deserved 2-1 victory with goals from Ethan and Ben.
The team finished in a highly respectable second place in the group phase and although unfortunate not to reach the next stage can feel proud of all their efforts.
